With music, dance, games, puppets, relays and sports — My Gym Silverdale is just for kids.

Although classes at the new children’s fitness center don’t begin until Monday, April 3, parents and children alike will have several chances to check out the new facility — in Silverdale next to Round Table Pizza — beginning with the first open house on Friday, March 24.

“The open houses are open to the public and all families are welcome to come and find out what we’re all about,” said Angie Emerson, franchisee of My Gym Silverdale. “They’ll have a chance to meet the teachers and see some of the exercises on the floor.”

Open to children 3 months to 13 years old, the one-hour weekly classes are designed specifically for each age group to help build self-esteem, confidence and social skills all while having fun.

“Our focus is building their self-confidence through movement,” said Constance Hansen, director of My Gym Silverdale.

Classes for younger children, ages 3 months to 3 1/2 years, are parent participation classes. Programs for children ages 3 1/2 to 13 years old are designed as independent classes.

“They’re awesome and very kid-friendly,” Hansen said of the classes.

Inside, the gym has equipment to accommodate each age group.

“We have everything from baby swings to trapezes,” Hansen said.

My Gym Silverdale also features a rock climbing wall, a zip line, monkey bars and a swing structure.

“Here we have a blast, we get them up and moving,” she added.

And while all of the activities are centered around fun, learning and health are at the forefront.

“We try to teach them healthy habits and get them away from the TV,” Emerson said. “They’re learning while they’re having fun.”

With three young children of her own, she recognized a need for My Gym in the local area.

“I realized there’s not a whole lot of stuff for kids to do here, especially with the weather,” she said. “The response from the community has been huge. People have enrolled and haven’t even seen the place. It’s indicative of the fact there’s nothing to do here.”

Not only does My Gym Silverdale offer weekly classes, but also hosts birthday parties which are open to members and non-members alike (although members receive a discounted price).

“Our birthday parties are a huge deal,” Hansen said. “We close the gym to the public and it’s stress-free for parents. All they have to do is bring a cake and we take care of the rest.”

My Gym got its start in 1983 in Southern California and has grown to more than 160 locations worldwide.
