Health care facility makes Bridge to Silverdale

"The big boys in pediatric care are now teaming up with physicians in Kitsap County.Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Center of Tacoma has established a Bremerton branch. It is currently located at 2500 Cherry Ave., Suite 102, but it is expected to move to Silverdale this summer. Shari Campbell, director of market planning for Mary Bridge, said the facility’s works with local physicians and brings specialists in children’s services to the Olympic Peninsula. The Bremerton branch doesn’t practice primary pediatric medicine, she said.Pediatric specialties housed in the Bremerton Mary Bridge branch will include adolescent medicine, allergy and immunology, asthma and pulmonology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology and neurology.“(The Bremerton-Silverdale community) has a real solid medical facility,” said Campbell. “We know it’s difficult for a family who needs specialized care and we know it’s even more difficult for them to travel.”Mary Bridge’s Bremerton branch will move into the new health care office facility attached to the new Harrison Hospital Silverdale campus, according to Campbell.Harrison Hospital officials would not confirm that Mary Bridge will be a tenant at its Silverdale facility.Marcy Powell, a nurse and child safety specialist at Mary Bridge in Bremerton, said the center has been quiet so far, probably because it is so new. She also stressed the relationship between specialists from Mary Bridge and local physicians. She said the approximate 16 medical specialists are working with physicians in Kitsap County to fill a gap in the community for families of special needs children."
