The Circle K at 9671 Silverdale Way closed its doors Tuesday, Nov. 27, after 13 years of business.

“Basically the site is closing for several reasons. There has been a slow-down in sales and an increase in competition. There are two additional (Circle K) sites owned and operated in the same area and it was not economical,” said Julie Igo, spokeswoman for Circle K.

The six employees at the store, located at the corner of Silverdale Way and Bucklin Hill Road, will have the option of transferring to another site, Igo said.

Circle K recently was purchased by Phillips 66 but closures are not widespread, Igo said.

“We are always evaluating the business, there is always a process of closing some sites and opening others,” said Igo, who is based out of Phoenix, Ariz.

The site was leased by Circle K from Robert Mathwig of Bremerton. Igo was not aware of future plans for the building, and declined to say from whom the chain leased the property.

There are 2,200 Circle K stores nationwide and 141 in Washington, Igo said.
