No. 1 with the Silver Bullet
Local beer distributor Jennings Distributing and its corporate partners recently won not one but four national awards from Coors Brewing Co.
Jennings Distributing of Bremerton which merged as a corporation under the Marine View Beverage name in 2001 took two awards in excellence, one for percent of increase and the other for barrel increase as well as the Presidents award and Founders award.
Marine View Beverage president Lance Kahn, who runs the Jennings Distributing operation, says the significance of the awards is just now beginning to sink in and it took a group effort, not just a single person, to accomplish such an achievement. He adds that no one has won the Founders award in the Northwest for almost 20 years.
No one person can take ownership of this award, he said. We have an excellent crew, really great people. We have a nice cross section of veterans and new people and good overall organization.
Including Jennings Distributing, there are three other distributing locations with warehouses in Tumwater, Tacoma and Port Angeles that operate under Marine View Beverage.
Kahns two corporate partners are secretary/treasurer Fred Bevegni who runs the Tacoma operation and vice president Michael Bjerke who runs the operation in Olympia.
We all run the business, we run our own operation and combine synergies when appropriate, Kahn said. Most in the beer business run one local location. We do it differently. We want a location in each community.
Marine View Beverage distributes beer, wine and some non-alcoholic beers and sodas.
Jennings Distributing disburses about 1.2 million cases a year and overall, Marine View Beverage distributes 5.5 million cases a year.
Jennings Distributing was started in 1966 by Bob Jennings. Kahn began working for the company in 1977 and started out doing deliveries and working in the warehouse. Jennings passed away in 1991 and Kahn purchased the company in 1992 along with his brother-in-law, John Jennings, who retired from the business in 2000.
