Shyne Sonsteng first worked at Shearz Hair Salon when it opened 13 years ago and has come full circle — she now owns the Silverdale salon and has a few changes in store.

She worked at the salon for a couple of years when it first opened and recently returned to the salon to purchase it.

“I wanted a business of my own,” she said. She purchased the salon last month and has several improvements planned.

Changes for the salon, located in the Seattle Lighting Plaza next to Blue Lagoon Tanning, include new, more comfortable chairs, new retail products and a paint makeover.

“I want to change the inside,” she said. “When I got here it had the ’80s look to it. It needs to be my personality and it wasn’t.”

One of Sonsteng’s goals is to ensure the stylists keep updated on new hair styles and foils by classes and continuing their education. She adds that foils are their specialty. Currently, there are five stylists who offer a wide variety of hair services for men, women and children.

“We have a lot of good work going out, beautiful hair leaving the salon,” she said. “They’re good at what they do.”

Besides the great work that her stylists do, Sonsteng says another great aspect of the salon is that all of the women that work there get along and help to make each other happy.

“I love the girls that work here,” she said.

Manicures and full sets also are now offered at the salon. Right now, until June 30, customers can receive either a full set of nails or color splash of seven foils for $25 each.
