Old favorites never die — at least not when it comes to Halloween costumes.

Annetta Butler has owned Pacific Northwest Costume on Riddell Road in Bremerton for 25 years now and year after year she continues to see the trends.

Although the then-favorites of characters from “Ghostbusters” and the original “Star Wars” have somewhat varied in the last 25 years, recent trends in Halloween costumes have remained the same.

“Pirates are always big in the Northwest,” Butler said.

Even in the rental line, pirates and wenches continue to top the list of the most sought after costumes.

In recent years Butler also has noticed that Halloween has become increasingly popular among adults.

“There are more adults than ever,” she said. “It’s grown into a big adult opportunity to play dress-up. It’s fun and it’s more accepted now.”
