Romy, a new European-inspired fashion boutique in Kitsap Mall, derives its inspiration from its fictional character bearing the same name.

“She’s a fictional character traveling the world,” said store manager Debbie Elvy. “Wherever she happens to be in the world represents (the clothing). The look right now is French-inspired, but we change it twice a month.”

Not only is Romy a fictional character, but it’s also the name of store owner Michael Witz’s daughter. Witz has been in the retail business for more than 20 years in South Africa and arrived in the United States about four years ago, according to regional manager Janaé Williams.

Romy in Kitsap Mall is located near the inside entrance of Macy’s. There are currently five other Romy stores in the Western Washington region, with three more scheduled to open in the coming months. The ultimate goal is to open 400 stores across the country, Williams said.

“We’re super excited about the growth of the store,” she added.

She describes the boutique’s clothing as unique and says many of the garments allow customers to interpret their own style.

“(Romy) is totally different to this area, it’s trendy and fashionable,” Elvy added. “It’s what Kitsap has needed for years. People have often left town to go shopping.”

Romy offers a wide range of clothing and accessories including belts, purses, shoes and jewelry in the moderate price range. Outfits range from casual wear to dresses perfect for a night out on the town.

“It’s one-stop shopping with clothes, shoes and accessories,” Williams said. “(Witz) felt the need for good prices while still keeping it trendy.”

Clothing selections range from camisoles and cocktail dresses to T-shirts and jeans. Many of the T-shirts are detailed with embellishments while some are more casual.

“There’s something in here for everyone,” Williams said. “We carry sizes from small to extra large.”

Since the store’s opening about two weeks ago, Elvy has heard many comments from customers regarding the need for a store like Romy in Kitsap.

“They are just wide-eyed,” she said. “They all say, ‘This is what this mall needed.’”

Romy’s current in-store specials include two T-shirts for $25 or five for $50 as well as two camisoles for $15 or five for $35.
