Graduating high school seniors in the Central Kitsap School District are eligible to apply for The Whaling Days Hank Mann Sykes scholarship, with each scholarship winner receiving $250 to $500. Applications are available at the Jenne-Wright administration office and most counseling offices in the district’s high schools. All applications must be postmarked by Jan. 31 in order to be considered. The scholarship was created in 2006 from proceeds from Silverdale’s Whaling Days festival and last year awarded five scholarships. The 2011 Silverdale Whaling Days will take place July 29, 30 and 31 at the Silverdale Waterfront Park.
