Celebrate good times, c'mon! Poulsbo will be dancing in the streets on Saturday

Summer months beg for a big party and Poulsbo knows how to throw one.

The fourth annual street dance takes place Saturday and organizers expect another hometown, fun time.

"Locals love the Street Dance because it's like a class reunion," said Street Dance co-chair Tammy Mattson. "They'll see people they haven't seen in years."

Unlike Viking Fest, which draws crowds and tourists far and wide, the Street Dance tends to be a more local and a homegrown event.

The event began as a way for downtown merchants and restaurants to say “thank you” to the community for supporting local businesses.

Front Street will close to traffic from Mora Ice Creamery to Sons of Norway.  The musical stage will be in the intersection of Jensen Way and Front Street. Restaurant vendors spilling out into the street will serve food and drink. (Mattson said it isn't like New Orleans where you can walk around with alcoholic beverages. Alcohol needs to be consumed in the roped-off areas in front of each restaurant.)

Bands will take to the stage beginning at 6 p.m. and will play until 10:30 p.m. On the schedule is: Fridrich and the Wanderlust, JBZ and Soul Siren.

From 3-6 p.m. at the Kvelstad Pavilion in Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park, a Children's Stage will be setup for the younger crowd. Savor the Sound will bring boxes of instruments and give children the chance to make their own music. They will form a conga line and dance through town. Caring Clowns International will entertain and collect donations for Fishline Food Bank. Kingtson Crossing Wellness Center will offer complimentary massages for parents. (It's the end of summer, what parent doesn't need a knot worked out of their shoulders?)

With the exception of some parking spaces near The Loft Restaurant being used for a barbecue, the King Olaf parking lot will be open. Free parking is also available at City Hall.

"This is an incredibly family-friendly event," Mattson said. "It's a great time to mingle, enjoy good music and food, and dance."
