Youth present storybook 'Cinderella' on CSTOCK stage
June 22, 2010 · Updated 2:59 PM
Thirty local kids, ages 6 to 19, will take the stage at (CSTOCK) in a storybook production of “Cinderella” beginning Friday, June 25. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 6 p.m. Sundays through July 11.
Director Andrea Gonzales said the much-loved story translates well to the stage, and is one all audiences will enjoy, both those in search of good theater and younger onlookers who will likely be swept away by the fairytale music and costuming.
The show also provides kids an opportunity to star in roles that would otherwise be cast to adults, and learn how to be good citizens of the theater for future shows and auditions. The cast of “Cinderella” includes both veteran CSTOCK performers and newcomers, Gonzales said.
Katharine Beddoe steps into glass slippers previously worn by Julie Andrews and Leslie Ann Warren, those of Cinderella. She plays opposite Zander Martin as the Prince. Both have worked with Gonzales previously, when she directed “Seussical” last year. Lauren Hill plays the Fairy Godmother, Megan Appleton is Cinderella’s malevolent stepmother and Allison Verhofstadt and Maddie Abbot play wickedly harebrained stepsisters Portia and Joy. Cayla Raymaker and Alex Raiford are the Queen and King.
Gonzales began directing for CSTOCK in 2003; she’s also helmed “Man of La Mancha” and “Oliver,” among others.
