A bride and groom married in Bremerton Saturday discovered at least 18 gift cards and several checks were stolen from their wedding gifts the next day.

The groom, a 23-year-old Pasco man, reported the theft to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s office at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, describing several opened empty envelopes from the couple’s pile of gifts, according to reports. One of the Target gift cards was cashed at the Lakewood Target at about 7 p.m. Saturday. The groom estimated the loss at thousands of dollars.

The groom said there were about 200 guests at the wedding and about 14 to 20 caterers, bartenders and musicians from the Lakewood and Tacoma areas, possibly explaining the cashed gift card in Lakewood.

The investigation of the theft is ongoing.
