A day to honor vets

Here are some of the events in Central Kitsap and Bremerton to mark Veteran’s Day:

Active duty military members and veterans, plus their families, are invited to the Bremerton Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Rd. NE, Bremerton, Thursday to trade stories beginning at 7:30 p.m. To take part in the dinner beforehand at 6 p.m., call (360) 479-1181 for reservations.

The Clearbrook Inn in Silverdale, at 12295 Schold Rd. NW, will recognize veterans and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts of America Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. There will be refreshments, a certificate presentation, flag ceremony and the reading of Old Glory. Call (360) 692-1228 for more information.

The Kitsap County Veteran’s Day Event will be held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1200 NW Fairgrounds Rd., Bremerton. Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Barry Bridger, a six-year “Hanoi Hilton” prisoner of war, will be the guest speaker. The pavilion at the fairgrounds will open at 9 a.m. with the formal ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Knights of Columbus and the Naval Sea Cadets will perform color guard duties.
