More Silverdale incorporation surveys planned
November 19, 2010 · 5:16 PM
Citizens United for Silverdale, a group pushing for Silverdale cityhood, will soon conduct surveys to determine what the boundaries for an incorporated Silverdale should be.
The population of the Silverdale urban growth area is about 19,140. Should the growth area be incorporated, Silverdale would be the third largest city in Kitsap County, said Mary Earl, committee member.
At a meeting Tuesday, the group said they plan to make phone calls and conduct surveys to determine where potential residents would want the boundaries drawn. The incorporated area cannot extend out of the urban growth area, though it can be smaller. The committee plans to file a petition for incorporation to the county in the new year and expects to forward a proposal to voters in spring of 2012.
However, organizers said the group’s goal is to gather reliable information first.
“The clock has not started,” said committee member Carl Johnson said Tuesday.
Voters rejected incorporation in 2000, the last time the measure was on the ballot.
