The state Department of Social and Health Services awarded Bremerton-based Paratransit Services the contract to broker Non-Emergency Medical Transportation services for three regions among nine counties in Western Washington.

The counties served are Pierce, Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Thurston and Lewis.

In 1988 the nonprofit company operated the pilot project to show that the state’s program to provide transportation for non-emergency Medicaid patients, at no cost to the patient, could be effectively managed by a centralized transportation broker.

Paratransit Services is one of the largest of the State’s nine regional Non-Emergency Medical Transportation brokers today.

The contract is effective for eight years.
