New cell tower approved in Central Kitsap

A 184-foot Verizon Wireless cell tower has been approved for a 2.45-acre area on Newberry Hill in Central Kitsap, according to documents from Kitsap County. The tower will be located at the corner of NW Newberry Hill Road and Seabeck Highway NW, near a convenience store and gas station. The purpose of the new tower is to enhance signal coverage to residents and drivers on the west side of the county. Nearby residents have said they receive little to no cellphone reception in the neighborhood. Kitsap County Hearing Examiner Kimberly Allen signed on the approval for the project March 16 with several conditions including the pole be painted dark green and native vegetation in the area remain.
