A 22-year-old Bremerton woman reported being assaulted by her boyfriend’s mother March 26 after she declined to eat the mother’s cooking.

The woman told police she was with her 25-year-old boyfriend visiting his family in the 1000 block of Fifth Street when the boyfriend’s 51-year-old mother was making dinner. When the 51-year-old announced it was time to eat, the 22-year-old said she was not hungry. The 51-year-old was reportedly offended by her refusal to eat. When the 22-year-old went to the kitchen to get some food, the 51-year-old argued with her and grabbed her by her jacket and neck, the 22-year-old said. The 22-year-old struck the 51-year-old several times in self-defense and the boyfriend separated the two.

The 51-year-old confirmed the 22-year-old’s story but denied grabbing her neck and said she thought the woman would assault her.

The report was forwarded to prosecutors.
