Chico Way drunken driving crash closes road
April 22, 2011 · Updated 11:14 AM
A suspected drunken driving crash March 30 caused a natural gas leak, damaged a power pole, closed a section of Chico Way NW and sent the driver to the hospital.
The collision closed the roadway for 30 minutes at the 7600 block of Chico Way Northwest near Northwest Holly Park Drive, according to a statement from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were already looking for the suspect vehicle, a Honda Odyssey minivan, when the crash was reported at 1:19 p.m. Witnesses reported the van was driving erratically on Silverdale Way.
The suspect, a 45-year-old Central Kitsap woman, was driving south on Chico Way when she started to enter a drainage culvert and steered the vehicle back onto the roadway. She then struck a Cadillac Seville driving north. The 65-year-old Central Kitsap woman driving the Cadillac spun and then struck a roadside mailbox. The Honda then went off the road and hit a natural gas meter and then a utility pole.
Cascade Natural Gas and Puget Sound Energy worked to shut off the leaking gas and shut down electrical power temporarily.
Those with information about the wreck can contact Deputy Ken Dickinson at the sheriff’s traffic unit at (360) 337-4634.
