Silverdale Red Apple closing, to become new Grocery Outlet

The Silverdale Red Apple is closing down, and in its place a remodeled Grocery Outlet will be moving in.

Currently the grocery store is liquidating its stock, said owner Russ Hyatt.

“We were doing fine, weren’t looking to move, but sometimes there is a deal and you can’t refuse the offer,” Hyatt said. The store employed between 12 and 17 people.

The new store will be owned by Albert and Mae Respicio, owners of the Wheaton Way location, said Melissa Porter, a spokeswoman for the Berkeley-based discount grocery chain.

The 15,000-square-foot space will be completely remolded.

Construction is expected to take months, and the company will announce when it will begin hiring.
