Applications being accepted for open state Senate seat

With the resignation announcement of state Sen. Phil Rockefeller, D-Bainbridge Island, the Kitsap County Democratic Central Committee is in the process of selecting three nominees for the open seat.

Interested people can apply for the nomination of the 23rd legislative district senator position until June 28. The executive board of the committee will then review each application to make sure each applicant meets the minimum eligibility requirements as required by state law and those that meet requirements will be forwarded to precinct committee officers for consideration.

A special caucus of the precinct committee officers is scheduled for July 12 at the Island Lake Community Center. Each applicant will be able to give a nomination speech and officers will ask them questions. At the end of the caucus, the officers will vote and select the top three applicants.

The top three applicants will then be forwarded to the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners and after interviewing each applicant, will make the final selection and appointment.

Applicants must request an application from Michael Arnold, kitsapchair@yahoo.com.

Candidate applications can be mailed to KCDCC, PO Box 27, Silverdale, WA, 98383.
