Kitsap law enforcement officers will be looking for drunken drivers through the Fourth of July as part of an emphasis patrol, according to a statement.

The emphasis started June 24, as part of a $24,000-a-year grant to pay for officer overtime, said Marsha Masters, traffic safety coordinator at the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Previous emphasis patrols have netted up to 11 drunken drivers, said Masters.

“They’re out there, it’s just a matter of being able to catch them,” she said.
