Community college tuition increased
The state board for Community and Technical Colleges approved a 12 percent tuition increase for the 2011-12 academic year at a meeting in Olympia on June 23.
The board approved the increase 6-0, and the 12 percent figure amounts to a 11 percent increase for part time students and the 13 percent increase for full time students, raising tuition to $3,500 for full-time students and $3,100 for part-time students.
The board anticipates another 12 percent increase for the following school year, but the board approves increases yearly, said board spokeswoman Janelle Runyon.
The board also finalized $77.4 million in cuts to the state’s community and technical colleges.
“I’ll support it, but I don’t like it,” said board member Erin Mundinger said in a statement.
