U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Wednesday awarded $25.8 million  to 29 public housing authorities across Washington state to help finance major large-scale improvements to local public housing inventories.

Included in the awards were The Bremerton Housing Authority and the Kitsap County Consolidated Hosing Authority in Silverdale. Bremerton’s program was awarded $684,663 and the county program another $196,065.

HUD’s Capital Fund Program provides annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, repair, renovate and/or modernize the public housing in their communities.

This funding can be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs and to make energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
