The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund announced that Britnay Mason, of Bremerton, has been awarded a college scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is awarded to the sons and daughters of military heroes who have been killed, classified as a prisoner of war, missing in action or are permanently disabled as the result of an operational mission or training accident.

Mason’s father, James Markwell, was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army when he was killed in action during the U.S. invasion of Panama. Mason is currently a freshman at Olympic College and also works as an on-call technician at Banfield Pet Hospital.

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships. For more information, visit www.FAScholarship.com or www.FreedomAlliance.org.
