Kindergarten registration for Central Kitsap schools

March 1, 2012 · 1:11 PM

The Central Kitsap School District began kindergarten registration for the 2012-2013 school year Monday. Families should check with their neighborhood elementary school for registration information. To register, children must be 5 years old on, or before Aug. 31.

A copy of the child's state-issued birth certificate, proof of immunization and verification of current address are needed in order to register. The best time to stop by the school to register is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.During the 2011-2012 school year, the school district has been offering tuition-based all-day kindergarten at Brownsville, Emerald Heights and Green Mountain elementary schools.

Free all-day kindergarten has been offered at Clear Creek, Cougar Valley, Esquire Hills, Jackson Park, PineCrest and Woodlands elementary schools.

Half-day kindergarten classes have been available at Cottonwood, Silver Ridge and Silverdale elementary schools and these schools may have all-day kindergarten classes in the future.

The district is examining all-day kindergarten options for next school year and hopes to continue to offer free all-day kindergarten at the current locations.

No decisions have been made and class options will be based on funding and enrollment. More information is available by calling (360) 662-1630.
