The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office reports that a woman was shot early Wednesday morning in Silverdale in an apparent domestic dispute.

Deputy Scott Wilson, a sheriff's office spokesman, said the woman was shot in the leg and transferred to Harrison Hospital. From there, the woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she underwent surgery.

"We believe this is domestic violence related, but right now we don't know the exact nature of the relationship — whether it's a boyfriend-girlfriend, husband-wife, whatever," Wilson said.

Deputies took a man into custody shortly after finding the woman in a car in the 8100 block of Hideaway Lane NW, just west of Silverdale. She first called 911 at about 2:25 a.m., but the phone connection was lost several times, Wilson said. She was found at about 3:14 a.m. and Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews, who were standing by, transported her within minutes.
