Small fire fills Kitsap Mall with Smoke | Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue
October 22, 2012 · 12:06 PM
Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue received a call 6:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in reference to a fire in the food court of the Kitsap Mall. The caller was a security guard at the mall and stated that there was smoke coming from Charley’s Grilled Subs.
Upon arrival crews observed smoke, but no fire in the front of Charley’s. They made entry into the kitchen and found heavy smoke and a small fire in a laundry hamper with greasy rags. The fire was quickly extinguished.
There was no fire damage since it was contained, but there was smoke throughout the mall. Morning mall walkers were not allowed in while crews and mall staff worked to ventilate the structure. The mall should open on time today.
The fire is not considered suspicious, but the exact cause is undetermined at this time.
The County Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate.
- Rags with grease or other flammable materials on them should always be stored in a well ventilated area if you’re unable to properly clean them immediately.
