Sewage Spill impacts Liberty Bay

Today, the city of Poulsbo reported a 5,000 to 10,000 gallon sewage spill into Liberty Bay. The spill occurred on Monday, Nov. 19, between noon and 2 p.m, near the intersection of Nordnes Street and 9th Avenue in Poulsbo. As a result of the spill, the Health District has issued a seven-day no contact advisory for Liberty Bay. Health District staff are posting warning signs at public access locations in the area.

During the advisory, the public is advised to avoid contact with the Bay and not harvest shellfish from it. The advisory is scheduled to be lifted the morning of Monday, Nov. 26.

The Health District also recommends not harvesting shellfish anywhere in Kitsap County during and following heavy rain events, due to the increased risk of illness from water borne pathogens.

For additional information on this advisory, contact Stuart Whitford, Water    Pollution Identification and Correction Program Manager, at 360-337-0351.
