Oxford Suites served up delicious hors d’oeuvres, sweet treats and wines during Thursday’s grand opening celebration.

Many prominent community members attended Thursday’s grand opening celebration at Oxford Suites. The four-story hotel has 104 suites including extended stay suites, bay view suites with king size beds and suites with two queen beds. Some rooms include large bathtubs, standup showers, a fireplace and views of Dyes Inlet.

Oxford Suites also has a conference room, board room, fitness center, pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath, restaurant and lounge.

“It’s for a very corporate clientele, but it’s family friendly as well,” Oxford Suites General Manager Steven Gear said. “The guests are enjoying the amenities of what we offer.”

Oxford Suites opened for business Oct. 1 and Gear said business has been good. Monday’s severe weather drew in many guests who could not make it home.

“We’re ahead of what we thought we would do,” Gear said.

The Baney Corp., of Bend, Ore., constructed and owns the hotel. Curt Baney and his sister, Kim, own the company and were on hand for the Silverdale location’s grand opening celebration. The Baney Corp. also owns Oxford Inn, formerly the Cimarron Hotel, on Silverdale Way.

“Tonight is a very special night for us,” Baney told the crowd before the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Baney said he knew he wanted to build another hotel in Silverdale and when the land along Bayshore Drive became available, he knew the time was right.

“We just thought it was the right time to build in this area,” Baney said. “With all the growth in this area we decided it was time to build a new project.”

The Baney Corp. has Oxford Suites throughout Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. The Baney Corp. has been in the hospitality business since 1955 and opened the first two Oxford Suites in 1989.

Gear said things have run smoothly at Oxford Suites during the past two months. Several hotel guests attested to that and said they are thoroughly enjoying their stay at Oxford Suites.

“Besides its little odds and ends, it’s been very easy to operate,” Gear said.

Guests in attendance at Thursday’s grand opening celebration enjoyed the festivities and were impressed with the hotel rooms and amenities Oxford Suites offers.

“We’ve gotten such a warm reception,” Baney said. “We love this community here and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
