Central Kitsap residents will soon have the opportunity to taste the ribs that have won more than 200 awards.

Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que is tentatively scheduled to open in about six to nine months, according to an employee at Famous Dave’s. Famous Dave’s will be located near Round Table Pizza on Northwest Plaza Road.

Dave Anderson, of Chicago, opened the first Famous Dave’s BBQ Shack in 1994 in Hayward, Wis. The restaurants feature slow-smoked ribs and Dave’s own secret barbecue sauces. Since his restaurant success, Anderson, a Native American, has carried an Olympic Torch for the 2002 Winter Olympics and received Oprah’s Angel Network Award and a $25,000 grant from Oprah Winfrey for working with at-risk Native American youth.

Famous Dave’s has locations throughout the United States including three in Washington. Silverdale will soon join Tacoma, Puyallap and Tukwila as a Famous Dave’s location.

The Famous Dave’s menu includes award-winning St. Louis style ribs, soups, salads, sandwiches, fish, chicken, burgers, baby back ribs and homemade desserts. The barbecue chain also caters get-togethers including weddings, picnics, banquets, parties and reunions. Rib lovers also may order meals and take them home to enjoy.

People can buy Famous Dave’s sauces, spices and cookbooks to create their own finger-licking meals at home. CDs and gift cards also are available at the restaurant.
