‘Oh yes it’s ladies night’

The fifth annual Girls Night Out event at Kitsap Mall is gearing up and ready to provide women of all ages with an evening full of fun.

Girls Night Out will be from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at Kitsap Mall. Tickets are $5 each and proceeds from the event benefit the American Red Cross and Girl Scouts Totem Council.

“It’s such a fun event, a great event,” said Jackie Fojtik, American Red Cross youth programs manager for the West Sound Service Center.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and Girls Night Out features store discounts, workshops, vendors, free gifts, a fall fashion show and a chance to win a $500 shopping spree. New to this year’s Girls Night Out is the comedic show, Big Purple Undies.

Lou Kelman traveled from Australia to unleash her Big Purple Undies United States show. In 2003, Kelman and her sister wrote a book of humorous poems called “Big Purple Undies.” The poem from which the book draws its title is about a “desperate 40-something woman who hangs a big purple pair of men’s underwear on the end of her bed in the hope that God will fill them with a man,” according to a news release.

Stacey Ames, Kitsap Mall spokeswoman, met Kelman at a women’s show in Seattle and thought the comedian’s show would be a hit at Girls Night Out.

“I have always wanted her to come but haven’t been able to coordinate it until now,” Ames said.

Kitsap Mall raised about $9,000 at last year’s Girls Night Out and Ames hopes this year’s event will bring in $10,000.

“We always have a goal to sell 2,000 tickets, so to raise $10,000 would be fabulous,” she said.

American Red Cross and Girl Scouts Totem Council members help set up and run Girls Night Out. Fojtik said the proceeds from Girls Night Out help support the American Red Cross youth programs. American Red Cross personnel teach basic aid to students at schools throughout the year.

“The funds will help support the training of youth in the community,” Fojtik said.

Fojtik volunteers at Girls Night Out and feels fortunate to be involved with the event.

“We feel so fortunate that Kitsap Mall is letting us be a beneficiary of this event,” Fojtik said. “And to have the community support as well as the mall is just great.”

Tickets for Girls Night Out are $5 and available at Kitsap Mall Guest Services.

“Getting tickets prior to the event is always much faster,” Ames said.

“It’s fabulous, everyone should come,” Ames said.
