Undergarment auction first of its kind
June 11, 2008 · Updated 10:10 AM
Covered in roses, lights, lace and shells, these bras are more than underwire and support.
Sponsored by the Soroptimist International of Greater North Kitsap, Bras for a Cause is a new fund-raiser where local individuals and businesses are being asked to donate theme bras which will be auctioned off to support local breast cancer-related services.
Were calling this the most hilarious auction in Kitsap County, laughed Sunny Saunders, event coordinator. Weve never had anything like this here before.
The auction is at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel. The primary recipients for the auction will be Hospice of Kitsap County and Harrison Medical Centers Rooftop Healing Garden.
The fee to submit a bra is $100 and tickets to the event are $40.
Saunders said the themed idea for the auction came after they lost a fellow Soroptimist member to breast cancer.
She was a long-standing member and it was really hard for us, Saunders added. She was a really neat lady ... I thought this would be a perfect fit to honor her memory ... I thought she wouldve really loved it.
There are no restrictions for bra themes and designs, with some entries ranging from bras covered in silk flowers, beach bras speckled with shells, lighted bras and metal art bras. Saunders added that the sky is the limit, and many donors will be including gift items and certificates with their bras.
We will auction (the bras) off to raise money, Saunders said.
Saunders said on top of bra entrants, she is still looking for companies that want to donate raffle items, which dont have to be bra-related.
Its just going to be so much fun, she added with a laugh.
