In a world of diet pills, exercise equipment and books claiming to know how to lose those pounds that have taken residence where they are unwanted, Silverdale native Michelle Draper knows the secret.

Through the Million Dollar Body Game program and the at-home fitness boot camp with P90X, Draper lost 56 pounds and 10-inches from her waistline. Because of her success, Draper entered her personal success story and won $10,000 from the Million Dollar Body program and is now entered into the $250,000 drawing with the other winners from across the nation.

The process, which began with a visit to the doctor, left Draper horrified with her body’s condition and what the doctor had to say.

“I went to the doctor for a checkup and when I got on the scale, I thought, ‘You have to be kidding me,’ I weighed 196 pounds,” Draper said with a laugh. “(My doctor) told me most of my weight was in my stomach and that I had an increased risk for diabetes and heart trouble.”

After beginning a regime of walking with her child on a nightly basis, Draper said she was up late one night when she saw an infomercial for an at-home boot camp workout program called P90X featured on a Web site called the Million Dollar Body Game.

Draper said she came across the workout program around the same time her husband, who’s in the Navy, asked her to meet him in Hawaii on his trip back from his deployment to the Persian Gulf. She decided this was her opportunity to make a difference in her life.

“I wanted to wear a bikini on the beach and really wow him,” Draper said with a laugh.

She added while working with the P90X boot camp DVD, she also had to reform her eating habits to reach her goals.

“My philosophy is try to eat right 80 to 85 percent of the time,” Draper said, adding that her true weakness was the candy Junior Mints. “No one can eat right 100 percent of the time, it’s not realistic.”

Other than her goal to impress her husband, Draper said one of the aspects of her workout schedule that kept her on track was the Work Out With You (WOWY) online community of others across the nation who were participating in the same Million Dollar Body program. WOWY tracks the workouts of each individual and allows for others to give support.

“The workout to start was hard. To try and change something you’ve been doing for so long (poor eating habits) is hard,” Draper said with a smile. “Now, I feel depressed if I don’t work out.”

Draper said with her workout schedule, she would work out for an hour for six days a week with one rest day, a regime she stills sticks to. When she made it down to Hawaii to visit her husband, Draper said he passed her because he didn’t recognize how much she had physically changed.

“When my husband got off the ship, he walked right by and didn’t even notice me,” Draper laughed. “Then he turned around to take a second look, and was like ‘Wow.’ It made me feel really good about myself.”

With a multitude of different programs, Draper said she can continue with the P90X program, or workout with a different one such as Yoga Booty Ballet, Slim in 6, Hip Hop Abs or Turbo Jam.

Each program, including P90X, combines challenging video-based fitness programs with easy-to-follow diet guidelines, nutritional supplements and the online peer-support system. WOWY also features coaches who help individuals with particular struggles and encourage them to reach their goals.

“The mix of weights and cardio helped me not only lose the weight, but change the shape of my body,” she added. “I can even do pull-ups now, something I never thought I would be able to do.”

Because Draper has had such success with the Million Dollar Body program, losing 56 pounds and 10 inches off her waistline, she was entered and won $10,000. Because of her success, she is now entered into the $250,000 drawing with the other winners across the nation.

“Your body adapts to (the different programs),” Draper said.

With her $10,000 winnings, Draper will attend a fitness camp at the Roseland Ranch in New York. She said the camp will feature various seminars on continual fitness as well as meal ideas and games.

A decision that has changed her life, Draper said she’s going to continue the journey of physical fitness, as well as help others along the way.

She added that even her husband is interested in joining the Million Dollar Body program.

“I’ve signed up to be a coach,” Draper said of the WOWY online community. “I want to help others reach their fitness goals.”
