Grand Funk Railroad to perform at this year

The Kitsap County Fair will expand its entertainment offerings into classic rock this summer, presenting an Aug. 22 concert from 1970s icons Grand Funk Railroad.

Fair manager Frank Abbott said a sponsorship from GEICO Insurance Co. allowed the expansion of entertainment from one night to two, and the inclusion of classic rock in addition to country.

During the past few years the Fair has presented up-and-coming country singers, and it will continue that tradition with an Aug. 23 performance by Craig Morgan. Both shows will begin after the rodeo at approximately 8:30 p.m.

While regular Fair admission will include the concerts, Abbott said it is possible that a few hundred up-front seats will be available for a slightly extra charge.

Like many veteran bands, Grand Funk no longer has all of its original members. Lead guitarist/vocalist Mark Farner is no longer with the band, but bassist Mel Shacher and drummer/vocalist Don Brewer still belong. Farner
