The Kitsap County Fair Advisory Board recently announced the 2008 recipients of the John Chittenden Memorial Scholarships.

Each recipient will receive $1,000. Funding for the scholarships is provided by the Dance for a Wish fund-raiser held annually in March.

This is the second year the board has awarded the scholarships.

In 2008, the scholarship was renamed in honor of John Chittenden, who died suddenly in 2007 while serving as board president and commercial exhibits director.

The 2009 application is available online at www.kitsapgov.com/parks/Fair_Stampede.htm. This year’s recipients are Laura Henning of Silverdale, Scott Boekenoogen of Poulsbo and Peter Crabtree of Kingston.

Henning is the daughter of Dale and Sue Henning. She attends Central Kitsap High School and has a grade point average 3.4 GPA. She plans to attend Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., majoring in equine journalism and studies.

Boekenoogen is the son of Steve and Shelly Bookenoogen. He is homeschooled and will earn his diploma from North Atlantic Regional High School with a 4.0 GPA. He plans to attend Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, majoring in pre-veterinary medicine.

Crabtree is the son of Glen and Colleen. He attends WestSound Academy and has a 3.4 GPA. He plans to attend Seattle University, majoring in business administration.
