Bremerton Police issue sex offender notice

The Bremerton Police Department has issued a Level 3 sex offender information bulletin.

John PetersonJohn Peterson, a 53-year-old white male, who stands 5’8” and is 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, has notified authorities that he will be living in the 100 block of Acorn Street in Bremerton.

According to official court documents, Peterson was convicted of communication with a minor for immoral purposes in 2010. In 1987, Peterson was convicted of indecent liberties with a juvenile known to him. In 1986, he was convicted of statutory rape in the first degree for sexually assaulting a juvenile known to him and in 1985 he was convicted of attempted indecent liberties with a juvenile female known to him.

The Bremerton Police Department notes that Peterson has the "potential" to re-offend and has served his sentences imposed by the courts. He is not wanted by the police at this time and police say the notification is not intended to increase fear, but rather inform the public.
