McCain to speak in Bremerton

"Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, fresh off his win in the New Hampshire Presidential primary, is coming to Bremerton.According to McCain's local campaign chair, attorney Ed Wolfe, McCain will speak on the boardwalk in downtown Bremerton at 6 p.m. Feb 23.Wolfe said more than 100 members of the national press will accompany McCain for the speech, one of only three scheduled appearances in Washington before the Feb. 29 primary. The other two appearances are in Seattle and Spokane.McCain and the press contingent will be coming to Bremerton from Seattle by private ferry.Wolfe said he got the news early Wednesday morning.I received confirmation from the national office at 6:30 this morning which, unfortunately, woke me up. Of course, this is politics and things could change, which would leave me with egg on my face. But (they said) he's coming, Wolfe said.McCain, a former prisoner of war during the Vietnam war, might also visit the former destroyer USS Turner Joy. McCain is one of serveral former POWs honored in an on-board memorial. However, Wolfe said, if McCain visits the floating museum, it will be a private visit. Wolfe said local response to McCain's campaign is building a growing sense of excitement.I'm getting 10 calls a day. What's new and exciting is that a large number of the calls are from independents and Democrats, Wolfe said. The flurry of excitement for the senator, who is locked in an insurgent primary battle against Texas Gov. George W. Bush, has Wolfe sounding very confident. It's going to be close but my gut feeling is that he (McCain) will win Washington state, Wolfe predicted."
