"Central Kitsap gardeners who formerly had to peek over their fences to see what the Joneses were up to will get a grand tour next week. The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce's first Summer Splendor Garden Tour will feature six of Central Kitsap's greatest gardens in an event that includes gardening tips, personal tours and workshops.Everyone is very excited, said chamber President Diane Russell. They really have such treasure in their yards.Russell said she and fellow chamber board member Tex Lewis came up with the idea as a way to promote the quality of life in Silverdale, and a way to raise money for the Clear Creek Task Force.Russell said the gardeners featured on the tour are sprucing up their gardens and looking forward to showing off all their hard work. One gardner added paths for easier viewing. At another participating garden, located at Crista Shores, the roses have come out. They're adding some last minute things, Russell said. They're really excited. The Summer Splendor Garden Tour will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 5-6. Free shuttles will depart the Clear Creek Interpretive Center near the intersection of Bucklin Hill Road and Blaine Avenue, and riders are encouraged since parking is scarce at some of the gardens. Parking at the Interpretive Center is free. Tickets for the tour will cost $15 and can be purchased through the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce at 692-6800. A sack lunch prepared by Stuart's Deli also will be available on the tour for around $6. The $15 ticket is good for a garden passport, which can picked up at the Interpretive Center."
