An 18-year old Auburn man was killed and four others were injured in a two car collision at the intersection of Silverdale Way and Kitsap Mall Boulevard at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29.
A 1997 Ford Mustang driven by a 17-year-old Suquamish man was travelling southbound on Silverdale Way and apparently failed to stop at the lighted intersection at Kitsap Mall Blvd a Kitsap County Sheriffs Office report stated. Names of victims were not yet available at press time..
The Mustang collided with the drivers side of a 1987 Buick Somerset driven by the Auburn man.
He was travelling eastbound on Kitsap Mall Blvd. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where he died shortly after arrival.
The Suquamish man, who was also airlifted to Harborview, is listed in satisfactory condition.
Two passengers in the Mustang and a passenger in the Buick were treated for minor injuries at Harrison Hospital in Silverdale and Bremerton.
All occupants of both vehicles appeared to be wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor KCSO officials said.
The sheriffs office is investigating the cause of the incident and is interested in speaking to occupants of two vehicles -- a black Mitsubishi Mirage and a medium sized, light colored passenger vehicle -- that were in the area.
People with information regarding the collision may call Deputy Ken Dickinson of the KCSO Traffic Division at (360) 337-4634.
