New hotel on Silverdale horizon

Hoping to appeal to business travelers, the Baney Corporation has plans to build an Oxford Suites near Old Town Silverdale.

According to information submitted to the county’s planning department, the four-story facility would have 104-suites, a breakfast area, exercise room and swimming pool. It would be located on a 2-acre lot at Bayshore Drive at Bucklin Hill.

The company has applied for permits to build, but its application as of Wednesday was not yet complete county staff said. It could take more than a year for the permitting process, which includes a shoreline development hearing.

According to plans submitted, the building would have a stucco venere and a green sheet metal roof. Some of its rooms would have fireplaces and hot tubs, said Kevin Baney, owner of the Bend, Oregon-based Baney Corp.

“It’s a beautiful area and it seems to be growing,” Baney said of Silverdale. The Oxford Suites near Old Town would be one of the company’s smaller hotels, but it would feature a new design Baney said.

“We’d like to break ground next year,” he said.

Although Oxford Suites is new to the area (the nearest one is in Yakima), Baney’s father owns the Cimmaron Motel, just blocks from the proposed site.

The Baneys have been in hospitality business since 1955. The Oxford Suites Hotels were developed in 1988 and are located throughout the Northwest.
