Stop and smell the flowers the lavender that is.
Purple Scent Lavender Farms 1,200 plants are in full bloom and are ready for harvest. The farm, overlooking picturesque Dyes Inlet on Chico Way, is open six days a week for purchase of you-pick lavender or already arranged bundles. Lavender lotions and soaps also are sold at the farm and can be purchased on the farms Web site as well.
Its fun, I decided to do this full-time and I cant think of a job that has been more fulfilling, said owner Suzanne Powers, a former cook with the CK School District. Its hard work, but when its in bloom its really gratifying, she said.
You-pick lavender bundles are $5.50 each and pre-arranged and dried bundles are $8.50 each. She also sells lavender plants that are about $2.50 for a 3 inch container and about $8 for a one gallon size. Powers grows several different varieties including Roso, Royal Velvet, Melissa and Hidcote. This marks the second year her farm has been open to the public.
This is something I wanted to share with everyone interested in lavender, Powers said.
