Board to decide on athletic coordinator

The Central Kitsap School District Board of Directors is slated to decide tonight whether the district should create an athletic coordinator position to help alleviate some of the job duties of the executive director of secondary teaching and learning.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the district’s main office, 9210 Silverdale Way.

In a memo to the school board dated Friday, Sept. 17, Superintendent Greg Lynch outlined the need for the new position.

“For the past three years, the coordination of the District’s athletic program, supervision of the stadium manager, and coordination of the Sports Medicine Advisory Group have been the responsibility of the Executive Director for Secondary Teaching and Learning,” he wrote. “Those duties dilute the resources that office can apply to its primary responsibility of supervising the instructional program at the secondary level.”

District spokesperson Laurie Cizon said last week that the position would be a temporary one and would last only a year.

The memo doesn’t clarify the position is temporary, but does set an annual salary at $40,000, and states that the position is a half-time, non-classified position.

The district also will review the September student enrollment report and appoint new community finance committee members.
