Johnson named association’s manager of the year

Silverdale Water District general manager Morgan Johnson can now add one more title to his name — manager of the year.

Johnson received the award at the annual Washington Association of Sewer and Water Districts (WASWD) conference on Sept. 16. Silverdale Water District is one of 176 special purpose sewer and water districts in the state.

“Under (Morgan’s) professional and progressive approach, the (Silverdale) district delivers water to its customers at a very reasonable cost. He has been instrumental in bringing the water district into the 21st century and providing a staff to be proud of and a service and maintenance record that shows the district’s commitment to providing the best possible water to its customers,” stated members of the WASWD nomination committee in a prepared statement.

Johnson has been in the water business for 25 years, working at Kitsap Public Utilities District (Kitsap PUD) for five years, starting in 1979 as a temporary summer worker when he was planning to go to college. But he couldn’t turn down the then-high paying lure of $4 an hour and began
