Mike Acres, the former athletic director of Central Kitsap High School, will fill the one-year, temporary Central Kitsap School District athletic coordinator position. The CKSD board of directors hired Acres during its regular meeting on Oct. 13.

The district athletic director position was created to alleviate some of the responsibility for Julie Goldsmith, the district’s executive director of secondary teaching and learning.

“In hiring an athletic director, we free the executive director of secondary teaching and learning to concentrate on that which should and does demand the majority of her time — academic teaching and learning,” said Superintendent Greg Lynch. “Additionally, in our efforts to ensure that this executive director position is focused in the appropriate direction, we have added supervision of the secondary special education program to Julie’s responsibilities.”
