Pavilion use, facilities top KPFD agenda

The renovation of the Pavilion means the possibility of new events at the Fairgrounds.

The Kitsap Public Facilities District (KPFD) board of directors heard the request of Doug Dowell on Monday, co-tournament director of the Olympic High School Team Wrestling Tournament, for possible funding of a larger than usual wrestling tournament to be hosted at the Pavilion. In the past the tournament has been hosted at Olympic, but because the smaller space, organizers could only accommodate eight teams. The larger venue space at the Pavilion would allow the tournament to host 16 teams. Tournament organizers are hoping to have the event on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, but are in need of financial assistance. They are asking KPFD to fund $5,200 for the December tournament. The money would be used for facilities and equipment rental and operational expenses.
