Wrestling tournament, Pavilion celebration get KPFD funding

The Kitsap Public Facilities District (KPFD) agreed to provide funding for two upcoming events — Olympic High School’s December team wrestling tournament and the June grand opening event of the Kitsap Fairgrounds and Events Center.

KPFD board of directors heard the two funding requests at their last meeting on Feb. 28. Doug Dowell, co-tournament director for Olympic High School team wrestling tournament, made the request. For the past 24 years, Olympic High School has hosted the tournament, but because of space limitations organizers could only bring in eight teams. By having the event at the Kitsap Pavilion, they’ll be able to accommodate 16 teams. The event is scheduled for Dec. 9-10. Organizers were originally requesting KPFD to
