Silverdale woman dies in car crash

DES MOINES — Silverdale resident Heather Lee Meadows’ young life was cut short after she was hit head-on by a suspected drunk driver while traveling on I-5 near SR 516 in south King County early Sunday morning.

Meadows, a 2003 Central Kitsap High School grad, was traveling southbound on I-5 when a 31-year-old Seattle man traveled the wrong direction up an exit ramp and drove about one mile the wrong way on the freeway. He crossed five lanes of traffic, striking Meadows’ 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier head-on. She died at the scene. She was not wearing her seat belt.

Her 20-year-old passenger from Vaughn was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries and was released on Wednesday.

The Seattle man, who was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, also was transported to Harborview Medical Center with massive internal injuries.
