Celebrating 90 years young
June 11, 2008 · Updated 1:42 PM
Lawrence Greaves is a walking history lesson. Greaves has lived every day of his life in Silverdale and, on April 19, hes celebrating his 90th birthday.
His celebration, however, will come a few days early, from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, with an open house at 13599 Olympic View Road NW.
In the nine decades Greaves has lived in Silverdale, the environment and feel have changed drastically. The house he lives in, for instance, was built in 1938 the year he and his late wife, Ellen, were married. The house was built where the Kitsap Mall now stands.
In the mid-1980s, the developer of the Kitsap Mall moved the house to its current location on Olympic View Road NW.
Greaves graduated from Port Washington Bay Union High School No. 6 in 1933 and married his Poulsbo bride five years later. He worked in the grocery business for 22 years, then worked as a Teamster at Naval Station Bremerton.
And every day, hed go back to the same house in the same town Silverdale.
I guess I was just too scared to leave, Greaves
