Governor signs off on Hood Canal legislation

OLYMPIA — State Rep. Bill Eikmeyer came out on the winning end of a hard fight Monday morning when his Hood Canal legislation package was signed into law.

The legislation package does two things: It makes the Hood Canal a rehabilitation zone to identify it for legislation and funding and it establishes the Hood Canal Coordinating Council as the lead agency in charge of nursing the Hood Canal back to health. The rehabilitation zone encompasses all the watersheds that drain into the Canal, from south of Tala Point in Jefferson County to Foulweather Bluff in Kitsap County.
