Graduation 2005: Laughter, tears and diplomas for OHS

At the end of it all, Jay Allred needed a group hug. Allred, a 2005 graduate of Olympic High School, gathered his classmates together on Saturday night after their graduation ceremony for an enormous group hug.

Allred, who towered over his classmates, spread out his arms and yelled “group hug.” As classmates gathered around, some cheered and some cried but not one was stoic.

Nakeisha Jones expressed two common sentiments: She was afraid she would trip while walking across the stage and her graduation day was a long time in coming. Jones said she’d been ready for graduation day “since I started high school.” She plans on moving to California and becoming a fashion designer.

Graduate Heather Kirk said her emotions over graduating ran the full gamut.

“I’m just really happy and sad at the same time,” she said.

Alex Kain, the class valedictorian who is off to Yale in the fall, offered his classmates advice for the future.
