CKFR postponing its request for a lid lift

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue officials recently discussed the possibility of going to the voters this fall with a request for a lid lift, but they have now decided to hold off until May 2006.

“There’s a lot to do to help educate the public so that people understand what we’re asking for,” said CKFR Chief Ken Burdette. “There’s not enough time between now and September to do that.”

The decision to wait until next year was made on Monday during a special board of commissioners meeting which included Burdette and several CKFR personnel. This fall, district officials intend to have a focus group to identify the needs of the community. The public also will be invited to attend informational meetings. Burdette expects those
